Sample SOP for MS in Physics
When I was young, I had developed the habit of reading newspaper that was for children. One day I read an article about how to use simple devices to build a simple circuit. I found it interesting, and by the end of the article, I was already planning things to execute it. I followed the instruction and built a simple circuit which was a glowing bulb. I was fantasized about the work I did. I used a LED, wire, a battery. This incident developed a very significant interest in me towards physics. With time the inclination of my interest towards physics started increasing. Throughout my school life, I kept on securing significant grades. From the 5th standard onwards, I was the only student in my class to secure the top 3 ranks in academics. In my intermediate, I had to choose a subject for my major. My priority was physics, and I ended up choosing physics as my major, followed by mathematics and chemistry. In the last year of my schooling, I topped my school and was awarded for the same.
When I passed my 12th standard, I had to choose a college for my physics major. However, I had one university in my mind to pursue my bachelor’s degree in physics, and that university was Delhi University. I got admission to one of the prestigious colleges of Delhi University and all over India. I started my bachelor’s, and in the first year itself, I stood among the top ranker of my college. Throughout my bachelor’s in physics, I participated in a lot of events and competitions. I appeared for various entrances exams of various colleges. In my second year, I participated in an inter-college science talent exam organized by Delhi University. Students from 80+ colleges of Delhi university participated in the competition. In this competition, I ranked six among 15000+ candidates and won a scholarship too. In this course of time, I learned a lot of tit-bits and insights into physics.
In the last year of my bachelor’s, I worked on a research project titled “Designing and constructing a Mechanical Electrode Arm for Electrodeposition of Multi-Layer Thin Films.” In this research project, I constructed a mechanical device. This mechanical device worked like a robot. This robot consisted of two degrees of freedom. These two degrees of freedom enabled the robot to move in a cartesian workspace. A microcontroller controlled the device I constructed. This microcontroller I used in my research was known as the PIC 16F877A microcontroller. I have also submitted a scientific research paper which is currently under review. I was honored with my bachelor’s degree with first division degree because of my academic grade, which was 9.18 out of 10, in B Sc in Physics. Just after the completion of my bachelor’s degree, I got a golden opportunity. This opportunity was to assist one of the lecturers of my college at the department of Physics. Currently, I am working on conducting and evaluating laboratory sessions. These laboratory sessions are specially for 1st and 2nd-year undergraduates. Throughout this period of conducting and evaluating laboratory sessions, I gained experience in designing, coordinating, and overseeing them.
These laboratory sessions boosted up my interest in research-related projects in the domain of physics. I was always wanted to perform various researches and find answers to the unanswered questions in physics. Sooner I realized that I could develop my horizon of knowledge in the domain of physics by pursuing a graduate degree. After my graduation, I want to pursue Ph.D. and perform various researches works in the field of physics. While pursuing my master’s in physics, I want to focus more on subjects like “Condense matter, “Solid State Physics,” or “Nano Science.” The core reason behind the idea of focusing on these subjects is that I genuinely believe that in these areas, I can fully unleash my potentials. I am confident about the fact that I am ready for my master’s.
Once I decided to pursue my master’s with physics as my major, I chose a college. I went on deep research and then finally found your prestigious college. The versatility and diversity of your college attracted me the most. Along with the researches your college is known for. The infrastructure is remarkable with the best student environment your college has to offer to its international students.
I am looking forward to the acceptance of my candidature in the applied course. I can assure you that my association with your esteemed college will be very fruitful for my career and my contribution towards the betterment of your college and society in the field of physics will be significant.
